1st Grade Melting Pot

During our studies of Communities in Virginia, first graders created a “melting pot”. As we poured our ingredients into our pot we discussed all the diverse ethnic groups that each ingredient represented.  We used Cheerios and yogurt covered Craisins to represent our White ethnic group.  Our Coco-Puffs and raisins represented our African-American ethnic group. We also added Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Almonds to represent our Hispanic-American ethnic group. Finally we added Craisins to represent our Native Americans. We threw in a bag of M&Ms to discuss how all the different colors in the bag makes the M&Ms better instead of just one color. After all our hard work each student got to enjoy the fruits of their labor by eating the mixture that we created in our melting pot.
