G.E.S. Fourth Graders Come in for a “Safe Landing”
During a recent S.T.R.E.A.M. challenge, fourth grade students at Greendale Elementary defied gravity. After reading a fractured fairy tale titled “The Giant’s Tale”, the students were given a challenge to create a parachute in order to get Jack down the beanstalk quickly and safely. The students were given a list of materials to choose from and were told to create a prototype to test. After design briefs were completed all students were given an opportunity to test their hypothesis. Afterwards, students discussed ways to improve their designs and some created a new parachute design. Finally, the students put their math skills to the test and calculated the speed Jack was falling.
