Simple Machines and Mouse Traps
Third Graders at Greendale Elementary showed their knowledge of Simple Machines by building mouse traps. Students worked in groups to design a mouse trap using two simple machines with everyday household products such as toilet paper rolls, pipe cleaners, and plastic cups. Students had to carefully select all of their supplies. By the power of team work, all students were able to successfully build something to trap a “mouse,” and then explained which simple machines they utilized. Pulleys and inclined planes were the two most popular choices.
