Second graders were given a treat when Ms. Tammy Boyd, GES Cafeteria Manager, secured a load of locally grown corn. Ms. Tammy talked to students about how corn grows and showed them the different parts of the vegetable. She then demonstrated how to shuck the corn correctly, removing the husk and the silk. Students thoroughly enjoyed corn shucking with some students shucking as many as seven ears of corn. Students had the pleasure of reaping the rewards of their shucking with fresh corn on the cob served for lunch.
