GES Field Day--Tuesday, May 28

12:30-2:00--Pre-K-2
Students should dress comfortably and be prepared to get wet. Happy Ice will be provided for free to all students by PTO. Guests may purchase Happy Ice for $3.
Be sure to take a few moments and read this article, written by our Superintendent @WashCoSuper, that shares some very real and concerning challenges for many students in Southwest Virginia. Due to a "lack of equal access, an inequitable field of play has been inadvertently created in Virginia."

First grade students went on a field trip to the Abingdon Fire Department. They learned about fire safety tips for their homes, toured the fire station, watched a demonstration from one of the fire fighters, learned about what is stored on the fire trucks, and even got to sit on an antique fire truck. We also saw the firefighters in action as they geared up for an emergency call. One of our Social Studies SOLs is to learn about community helpers and how they make positive impacts on our community, so this was a great way to bring that standard to life!
Please share this wonderful opportunity. @WashCoSuper
We want to give a big shout-out to our awesome PTO officers and volunteers! Thanks for the meals and gifts this week. We appreciate your hard work and dedication to our school!!

GES staff have been playing Survivor this week as part of Teacher Appreciation Week. Staff members have been completing challenges. One challenge was to ask the mayor to come spin our wheel of fortunes. Mayor Pillion came this morning, spun the wheel, and completed her challenge! Thank you, Mayor Pillion, for taking part in our Survivor challenge.
Thank you, Nurse Kim! You are our awesome school nurse. We love you!

Families,
We often take for granted the time that teachers spend with our children. However, it is in those moments that lifelong lessons are learned that leave a legacy. Please reach out to your child’s teachers to thank them for the legacy they are helping you build through empowering our most valuable resource; our children.
Thank you,
Dr. Perrigan
